Praying for Our Country
When was the last time you got together with other Christians and prayed for our country?
Yesterday, in Charlotte, North Carolina, churches of many denominations joined together at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater to pray for spiritual awakening in our country. People signed the Declaration of National Spiritual Emergency. For hours people came to pray, cry out to God, and to cry over their own failure to put God first in their lives. The Church (followers of Christ) must wake up and speak up for the truth.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Here are just some of the tweets shared by those in attendance:

“Yes Holy Spirit send the Fire and burn the rubbish in our hearts. Touch every area the enemy has caused us to go astray. Bring us back to life Lord. Do a new work in our Pastors and our leaders we pray. Break our hearts. Help us to be holy as you are holy. Help us not to be afraid of offending someone but to speak the truthes Holy Spirit send the Fire and burn the rubbish in our hearts. Touch every area the enemy has caused us to go astray. Bring us back to life Lord. Do a new work in our Pastors and our leaders we pray. Break our hearts. Help us to be holy as you are holy. Help us not to be afraid of offending someone but to speak the truth.”
“May each individual get on their knees and repent for our sins and the sins of our nation.”
“It is about time our nation of believers cry out for mercy and forgiveness. God is our only hope. Bless u for what you’re doing!”
And some speeches (of note here, I could only type so fast and so missed a great deal of what came between their sentences. I hope I caught enough to give you an idea of their message however):
“I’m not supporting any political party, but I have black friends who do not believe in abortion, and yet are planning on voting for a president who does. We have to take our stand. Where will you stand when the gates of hell move to attack the moral fibers of our country? God we repent, God. We have blood guilt on our hands. Our churches have been silent God. Let us not be like Judas God that was willing to sell you out for monetary gain. We say your ways are the best way God! We say your ways are the best way God! We say your ways are the best way God!”
“The greatest problem in America today is not the presence of darkness; it’s the absence of light! If we don’t rise up to fill the void, atheism will rise up, Islam will rise up to fill the void. Jesus did not come into the world and die to start some Sunday morning garden club type church. ‘If anyone wants to come after me, let him take up his cross and follow me.’ He made it plain if we try to save our lives, we lose them, but if we lose our lives for him and the Gospel, we save them. It is time to awaken from our Christian slumber. It is time for us to awaken from church as usual. The Jesus revolution is not one of violence, it is not one of hatred,…It is one of love… It is where WE lay down OUR lives for those who are hurting. It is one that turns darkness into light…..This is not some type of pop event. This is solemn. Are you willing to follow Jesus unto death?”
And part of one of the many prayers,
“Lord we have turned away from you. We have been told Lord that we are no longer a Christian nation. Our religious liberties are wasting away before our very eyes, and we turn a blind eye as we stay intoxicated by our pleasures. Lord our hearts are broken. Help us return to our heritage, Lord. Help us to display faithfulness to the world, Lord, faithfulness to your Word, faithfulness to your teachings, and faithfulness to your people Lord.”
